Six months and utterly in love

Let me just say that I have loved almost every minute of being a Mama thus far. I mean who wouldn't admit that endless nights of sleeplessness stinks and that marathon feedings drive you insane? I'm not going to lie, somethings are hard to love. However, I am seriously LOVING this new stage in babyhood! Desmond is now six months old and is becoming even more and more fun!

Gone are the short naps every hour and a half and feedings every two hours (some how we made it work but looking back I'm not really sure how I got much done around the house!) We're still a little unpredictable as far as a routine goes but I can plan ahead a little bit more now. He's down to two naps a day and actually stays asleep for more than 28 minutes! (knock on wood!! ;) ) And he puts himself to sleep! For the first time in 6 months I'm actually able to get ready for the day while he's awake instead of having to wait for him to take a nap. He seems to be a pretty smart kid so laying around while mommy does her hair doesn't quite entertain him enough. But sitting up and being able to reach toys has opened up a whole new string of opportunities! We're talking vacuuming without him strapped to me in the sling, making dinner with fewer pauses to help him get a toy, and most importantly a happier baby while Mama teaches him patience and a little independence! He's loving his new ability especially because it now means he can sit in the carts at stores! He got pretty bored (noticing a trend?) sitting in his carseat while Mama shopped. Now that he can sit in the cart he can see everything and everyone. He is such a little flirt!

For the past two months he's been enjoying trying new foods. This kid can't get enough! So far he only hates anything green! Very recently he has started eating little amounts of greek yogurt and can't seem to eat it fast enough! You can tell when he's eating something he loves because he gets pretty impatient between bites :)

These big milestones aren't the only reason I'm sighing with relief and having a lot of fun, though. Between naps little man and I are having So much fun! Every morning we go out and water the veggie gardens and play with the puppies, oh how Des Loves the puppies! We go for walks and discover new sights and sounds (I'm noticing he gets a look of awe every time a car goes by...he is his father's child) And we attempt a bike ride or walk after dinner with Daddy.

For a little while there I was wondering if I'd ever really- I mean Really- enjoy the baby stage. He's so stinking cute and sweet and I love him but a Mama can only handle so much peek-a-boo and laying around watching the ceiling fan spin (although we still do that from time to time ;) ) Mommy hood progressively gets more fun with each new stage. I'm pretty content with where we're at right now though so I'm going to hope and pray we start slowing down a little bit. He's getting so big!!

It's just amazing how quickly they grow up. There are days, week even, where it feels like we're not going anywhere and this whole baby stage is just tough and stressful (letting him learn to put himself to sleep was a very long and hard time for this Mama but we made it through!) but once you get through another rough patch and look back you realize how very short of a time it was! I mean six months is not that long and look at how far we've come! It's just absolutely...miraculous! God is so good!
